Important Information

  • BENEFITS

For pre-emergence weed control in maize and sweetcorn crops

An essential part of any maize planting programme

Use in combination with Atratec to increase the weed spectrum

Early removal of emerging weeds is critical to achieving high maize yields. Maize Guard has robust activity across a range of soil types including peat, sands and clays and is also more active than other compounds in dry conditions. Organic soils and low soil moisture do reduce activity.
  • APPLICATION

Apply immediately after planting for best results, late application can result in lower levels of weed control.

Use 3 litres of Maize Guard per hectare in 200 - 300 litres of water, ensuring even coverage of soil surface. Tank mix with Atratec herbicide and / or Halexcs or Toppel 500 insecticide.

Surface applied applications of Maize Guard will work under dry soil conditions, but soil moisture will improve activity. A fine firm seedbed will improve weed control. Maize Guard can be applied and incorporated pre-planting. This can be done by performing normal seedbed preparation to achieve a seedbed free of plant residues and clods. Then surface apply Maize Guard and follow with a tined cultivator, incorporating to a maximum depth of 5cm. Maize can then be planted.

Always refer to the label for application rate details

  • MODE OF ACTION

Applied following planting and before crop and weed emergence. It is absorbed mainly through the shoots of the germinating grass weeds and the roots of germinating broadleaf weeds, where it interferes with protein formation and plant growth.
